This song didn't make it onto "Dante's Local," only because I wasn't happy with my vocals. Like "Time in Kind," another original track that survived the cut, I wrote it intending for someone else to sing the lead vocal. Since I didn't have time to fix the pitchy parts (you'll hear them when they come 'round) I decided to leave it off the album. I started writing this song back in 1992, following my arrival in Columbia, South Carolina, after a couple of frustrating years in L.A. '5 Points' is the downtown bar/restaurant district, and I used to do an Irish gig down there every Friday night with a band called Harkstowe Grange. Hootie and the Blowfish was just another bar band at that time, and had a gig right down the street from us. Little did I know that less than two years later I'd be in New York City, bussing tables and playin' 'pipes with a fledgling celtic rock band called One19, and Hootie would be goin' platinum! Anyway, try to listen past the vocal and get into the lyrics- it'll give you a reference for where I was at back then. This track was recorded at Joe Egan's in Hinesburg, Vermont with Mark Robohm on drums, J'Kael on guitars and B3, Aaron Flynn on fretless bass guitar, and Gordon Stone on banjo.
