Toward the end of the season in 2000 I decided that, as much fun as I was having on the Irish bar circuit with the Full Circle Band, it wasn't something I really wanted to do long term. So, in late October, I gathered up a bunch of instruments, and a few friends, and plunged head-first into the realm of acoustic coffeehouse gigs. I've done a few of them before, but never with the level of enjoyment I am experiencing now. This show was at the Unitarian Universalist Coffee House in Columbia, SC right up the road from where I live. On the right (in my lap) is my son, Colin. He helped his Mom, Kristine, emcee.
Playin' 'Cape Breton' style takes a bit of getting used to, but I find I really dig bein able to stomp hard on the floor with both feet when the set takes off!
J'Kael, me and Collier early in the set--finding the pocket. J'Kael and Collier had never performed together before this show, but to hear them, you'd have thought they'd been together for years.
Sing it, boys!
Whadda we do now, Dad?
Highland 'pipes and small'pipes--it's so much fun to just relax and play like I'm sitting in my living room.
J'Kael and Collier, deep in the pocket at this point!
Giving back the gift.
It always astounds me that we actually get paid to do this!
Where are you, Collier?
